Unclaimed Life Cover from CIS?

Hi,
I'm sorry if I'm not using the correct terms before I start - I'm not that clued up on wills, estates and insurances etc.
My father in law passed away 9 years ago and his will was finalised and executed by my sister in law, no issues or concerns anywhere, everyone knew what they were getting and were/are happy.
Today my husband got a letter addressed to him from Royal London asking if he was the right person that was related to his father as they have "found" a CIS life insurance policy in dad's name. The office was closed by the time we got chance to read it but it's just got me chewed. I don't know if it's a scam or anything. Just strange it's come in husband's name and not to the brother who's wife was Executor (she has also since passed away). Is this a common thing? Do life insurances just get found like this years and years later?
TIA

Your father-in-law probably named your husband as next of kin on the policy. The insurer won't necessarily know who the executor is. I don't think there is anything suspicious although obviously be careful when you call them if you suspect they are fishing for info.

I don't know if it's a scam or anything.Unlikely. Royal London bought the old CIS life and pensions book. And it's normal for insurers to use tracing companies for old policies.
