Just been refused a HSBC Credit Card!?

HSBC has just done the exact same thing to me!  I've never been refused a credit card application before either, phoned them and they couldnt tell me why, and only advise was to apply again in 3 months.  As if I'd go anywhere near them again.

If this is your first application through the pandemic - that could be why - lots of card providers have tightened their criteria - HSBC have always been known for being a bit on the safer side when they make their decisions, so they do seem to get a few more declines than others. If you happen to have any existing debt - it could be that in ratio to your income that could have done it - or if you'd only paid minimum (ish) payments for a while... Lots of factors used when deciding. Sadly on the day you applied - you didn't meet their criteria (Although none of us will ever know what that is) - it happens. If over the next three months your debt (if you have any) drops a little - then give it another go. Just don't go on an application spree and getting multiple turn-downs (I'm sure you wouldn't but just worth mentioning).
