CHANGE FROM PREPAYMENT TO DD

Hi I have been on a prepaid metre for 9 years I am not in debt with the energy supplier (British Gas) and i am just on the standard variable amount for both gas and electric.
should I switch to a fixed contract for 18 months and go on DD in light of the current situation with the energy firms? they have offered me DD of £237 per month which seems high to me personally as they are using my using my usage from last year which was working from home 5 days per week and two children at home due to lockdown? I don't know what is best to do please can someone help me?

DD £s are meaningless.  Annual consumption, unit rates & daily charge is what are important.  Unless you can get an exceptionally good fixed rate the general advice is still to stick with the SVR.  Getting a credit meter would help cut bills as long as you keep on top of your use.
