On listening to the Chancellor last night he said he was going to help consumers with a £200 loan to all households to be repaid over 4 years, but hang on is he really helping. At the moment we pay 5% vat on all energy bills, so if the bill goes up he takes more tax (for doing nothing). So if my energy bill goes up by say £750 this year and next he will have increased the tax burden by (£1500 x5%) £75 for doing absolutely s.d all. In the meantime I have been given a loan which I have to repay, how is this helping. This is more like a stealth tax than help. Look what our neighbours in Europe are doing. The French are levying a charge on EDF and restricting rises to 4%, the Spanish and German governments are also restricting the rises by various controls and charges while we are getting a loan and a tax burden ...thanks Rishi I wouldn't like to get a Christmas present from you

Well said. It doesn't even begin to address the energy and climate crises we face over the coming years.
