Refund to Credit Card Delay!?

I am due a £100 refund from a certain Company which they originally told me would be instant or within 3/5 days.
Five days later nothing has appeared in my account so I emailed them and got the following answer:

Thank you for your email.
We are very sorry to hear that you have not received your refund. The refunds are usually instant and take 3-5 working days for the transaction to be processed. In some very rare cases this process might take up to 14 working days. Therefore, we ask you to wait a little longer.

I have never had to wait 14 days for a deposit of cash into my account it is normally instant.
Is 14 days correct or am I being led down the garden path and if so what should I do about it.

Thanks for any replies.

A refund does not require authorisation. So the 1st your card provide will know about it is when it hits your account. So in effect should be  there the next day. Unless retailers system or merchant bank is only batch processing refunds.

I would ask retailer for ARN (acquirer reference number) Date & time of credit so your card provider can check systems to see if they have processed it.
