Facebook Marketplace - Advice pls

Hi All

I was getting rid of an item for free on facebook marketplace and someone asked to have it.

I foolish gave out my address and they were coming to collect today - however got a message saying they no longer wanted it and now their profile etc has been deleted.

I am so angry with myself as i’m normally so careful.

Can a scammer do much with your name and address?

Obviously know your address to rob your house but could do that anyways.

Just wanted some advice and put my mind to rest

Has their profile actually been deleted or have they just blocked you? People flake out on marketplace all the time and I never consider anything sold until cash is in hand

addresses are in the phone book for many people, hardly the most valuable bit of private information, you'll be fine.

Your name and address together are not particularly valuable pieces of information and can often be found in paper or online phonebooks.

Anyone who can see your house knows where you live; I wouldn't worry.

I always panic block sellers when I flake out. It's a terrible character flaw, but hopefully one that is reassuring to you as I know many do the same!

Assuming you are eligible to vote, and have registered as you are legally required, your name and address is also on the electoral roll, which (even the edited version) can be viewed for free at your town hall. Your name and address is public information.

I've given stuff away on Freecycle recently. had to give my address to complete strangers, otherwise they couldn't collect. Never gave it a 2nd thought. Not a lot can be done with just name and address.
