Morning everyone it’s cold but dry hugs for all that need them and thinking of the poorlies I am not at work until 12 I am making chicken and bacon pasta bake for tonight and I am preparing a quiche for tomorrow while the ovens on we are going to have to keep these bills down or at least try to . I was lucky yesterday when I went to do one of my cleaning jobs the lady I clean for wanted her wardrobes sorted out she gave me two jackets that she had only worn once and a brand new cardigan still with the tags on I was over the moon they are a lovely couple but I have cleaned for some horrors I could write a book then just as I was leaving her hubby came bouncing down the 2 bottom stairs it shook him up but I got him up and made him a cuppa he was ok but as I was leaving he apologised for the swearing I told him if he stays upright until I go next week I will learn him some better words he was just laughing.have a good day everyone whatever you are doing14

Morning everyone
Well yesterday was spent reading and watching TV - I didn't feel up to going for a walk but I definitely felt worse for not trying - so this morning I'll walk down to mam and dads for a little while.
I usually wish I had some more time to myself - what with work and little one - but I could do with some company just now! Can't win can you?
Had a good chat to my boss who is happy for me to be off next week too and suggested I then take the next week as it will be just 4 days till half term - that would give me another 3 full weeks to hopefully be better.
Good news is workmen finally came to move all the broken fences from my back garden - the plants I had along the fence look like they might be able to be pushed back up into place once the new fences are put up....they're not completely dead as I feared. They said they have no idea when they will be done but at least I can now go ahead and get the rest of the work done to my garden in a couple of weeks time.
I discovered yesterday that my passport needs renewed - will get it sorted over the weekend. DD will have to take a photo for me next time she's here. I have 10 weeks till I go away so plenty of time....it's a good job I looked though.
Nelski - you should have asked the driver to go back for some vodka!
Gers - did you see James McAvoy on Graham Norton? There was a short clip of his play
Hope everyone has a good day today . Take care x16 -
Morning folks and thanks nmlc for starting us off.
A day’s holiday for me so I’m off on the train soon to spend it with my DS and little DGD. She’s 7 months and a real cutie. I’ll be fed there so no need to think of menu plans for me. DH has left over veg chilli for his tea (again, it’s the ever lasting pot but luckily he loves it) then I’m home mid evening.Hope all well with you Red Ruby
Camelot make sure you rest well before going back to work
Poppy keep warm
Gers it’s great that the hotel was happy to move the date for you. Glad home safe.Hugs to all. Thinking of lots X15 -
Morning, hugs if you need one.
Well it looks like we have been lucky again, according to recent advice if you have covid the symptoms show themselves two days after you have been in contact, which means that as the cleaner started with symptoms on Wednesday she must have be in contact with the virus on Monday. I ordered a set of tests and they are due today. Unless one or the other of us is not well I will not do the test. I think DB has a slight cold his cold sore has broken out on his lip. Its a night mare trying to get to the back of his throat, he is the only person I know who cannot put his tongue out flat and not wretch.
It was raining first thing but the sun is struggling to get through.
Painter has almost finished he is doing the gloss, I am pleased with the effect of the walls, there is just a hint of pink in the paint. The curtains arrived yesterday so might manage to get them up over the weekend, we are not moving back in to the bedroom until the carpet has been fitted on Thursday.
Usaual fish and chips tonight, might do a jelly, depends.........10 -
Suffolksue - I put a small amount of money away each week out of my pension for Birthday/Christmas presents. I buy in the sales and make a lot of gifts so providing presents for 6 children + 5 partners + 10 Grandchildren is not onerous.
I gave the bag that I made to my elderly friend - I didn't put a popper as thought it may be hard for her hands - she wants a popper so I have done it and will give it to her on Sunday. She asked how much and I said a donation to SA so we are started again on fund raising for this month.
I finally finished the 3 ordered hooded ponchos. I did the embroidery yesterday - my first day indoors for 2 weeks. I delivered the ponchos this morning before it rained.

I put money away each week for birthdays and especially Christmas too ,have done that for many years .
I’ve just started doing the same for the car tax and insurance ,I have a service agreement and that covers MOT etc .
Been looking at the power price rise .I built up a lot of credit as last year the heating was on nearly all the time for DH ,this year I just put more clothes on ,it won’t last forever but will help .
I do realise how lucky I am with pensions .10 -
Suffolksue - we don't have a car - use our bus passes to visit the big shopping centre and we can walk into town in 10 minutes.
I put a bit by for all sorts of things - I have money put aside for the dentist - Mr F calls it my chopper fund. My arthritis plays up if I get cold so our heating is on a lot.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Gers - did you see James McAvoy on Graham Norton? There was a short clip of his playI did indeed - that's where I first saw it. Thanks.Florence - lovely ponchos, I crocheted one, without a hood, in 1971. Mustard and cream with a fringe all around it.My day has been one of getting deliveries. A*azon are on the ball just now, things which were due on Monday and Tuesday arrived today. My new bedding was due to be delivered yesterday and I got an email to say that it had, but it wasn't here. Cue a long and difficult phone conversation with DPD which was totally unsatisfactory. Eventually I found a phone number for the local sub-contractors, spoke to their very helpful person in Glasgow who then phoned the delivery man who phoned me back - he'd put the box in an old bin in the barn, I'd never have thought to look in that bin! Anyway, it's safe and gorgeous. Great work by the local company and a great big thumbs down to DPD.The weather is now brighter though not any less cold or dry. I nipped out to the barn for the box the wind chill was awful.Last night I emailed a company which hires out graduation gowns and hoods as I had my late DM's, she had bought and kept them as she was so proud of her achievements. Just like the fur coat and glasses these were things I just couldn't throw them away. I'm delighted that the company wants them - I didn't want paying - and have even sent me a pre-paid label for storage. Very impressed and very happy. So, overall a good at Ger's Towers. I hope that the case can be said of everyone else.

Coffee time, so here's today's update from chez nous.
Squally wintery showers this morning, then bright and breezy, very cold.
Dinner tonight is cod fillets poached in milk with sliced mushrooms and bread and butter. Afters is bread & butter pudding (made from the heel end of a hot cross bun loaf) with custard. Next week's meal plan to do yet but I have a pretty good idea of what we'll be having so it shouldn't take too long.
I'm another one that puts of bits of money aside for various things, I use empty herb/spice jars all labelled up. I even have one called "spare", aka the odd coppers from my purse at the end of the week. That's when DH says I'm in the counting house. There's been times when I've been glad of those!
Like most of us on here, I'm still trying to get my head around yesterday's announcement about the hike in energy prices. I have my spreadsheet ready for when the bills start coming in this month or next. Somehow I don't think the pension increase is going to go far this year. I've got a few ideas for cutting down in various areas but the one thing I won't compromise on is my hairdressing fund for a regular cut/blow dry (no colouring etc) - that's my one and only nod to vanity. Not bothered about fashionable clothes, make-up, nail polish and the like, but if my hair is a mess then I'm not happy. It's a morale booster for me. At a push I could go a bit longer between cuts so I guess that would free up a little extra cash.nmlc: Chill out tonight after your busy day!
Nels: I bet your tuna fishcakes were much better than the awful prawn & lemongrass ones we had.
poppy811: Yuk to the snow, hopefully it won’t last too long.
bellabella: Chuckled at your box-making attempts - sounds a bit like the Krypton Factor (if you remember that TV programme).
Gers: Glad you got home safely, I hope you enjoyed your “treat”.
IzzyBee: Surprise new clothes, lovely.
Deleted_User: Commiserations to DH for the cold sores, they’re horrid things. I get them more in summer and I think it’s the sun that triggers them.
Florenceem: Those ponchos are beautiful. Chopper fund - I love it!
Hugs to anyone feeling under the weather or just plain fed up, good luck for those waiting for blood test results etc - the weekend is nearly here.Be kind to others and to yourself too.12 -
Well, we've had everything today - rain, hail, snow and bright sun. Cold all day though and currently snowing but ground is soaking wet so unlikely it'll lie.
Another busy day at work, glad it's the weekend now. Nothing much planned this weekend, just chores and cozying in at home.
Salad for dinner tonight, got plenty to use up.
Hope everyone has a good weekend
