Should I switch my 83 year old mother from Ecotricity?
I really need some advice. I am now looking after my 83 year old mothers finances as well as sorting out my own. My older brother got her onto Ecotricity a few years ago, however since then I have taken over looking after her finances. Recently her gas and electric bills have shot up. Last month it came to £300 although fortunately she had a warm home discount of £140.
I have looked into it and she’s currently being charged as follows:
Electric Consumption 34.03p per unit
Electric Standing Charge 28.72p
Gas Consumption 7.54p per unit
Gas Standing charge 28.63p
So my question is should I switch my mum now despite the current circumstances or should she stay as she is for now? I am really worried about it as I want to do the best thing for her.
Thank you all in advance for any advice anyone can give.

Is your mother loaded, and is she particularly environmentally-conscious?Put another way, will she mind paying 20% more than she really needs to for her electricity, in the knowledge that she's helping to preserver the planet for future generations?Ecotricity are one of three energy suppliers with "deep green" credentials (the others are good Energy and Green Energy UK). As a result Ofgem have exempted them from the price cap and their rates are, almost without exception, more expensive than any of the other suppliers.Switching isn't especially easy at the moment but EDF (link) are taking on new customers on their Ofgem-capped standard variable rate if you phone them.

Thanks for that. Yes I thought it was very expensive what she’s paying and no she certainly isn’t loaded. I will contact EDF this week and see if I can get her switched.1

EDF is mostly nuclear for electricity, because they own lots of nuclear power stations, including feeding the cross channel link from France. You can decide for yourself how "green" that is.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.1 -
