Well no it wouldn't actually. Because you don't need an email address to use Android. You do for Play Store but that doesn't have to a Gmail address (much like a Microsoft account doesn't need to be a Hotmail/Outlook/MSN address). Its sort of baked into the infrastructure/instructions that you need Gmail, but you don't. It makes life easier for integration into Android, but its not a necessity.
