  • Will do, thanks @MWT

At what point does something like this taint my credit score? At the point of this being referred to a debt collector or sooner/later?

It looks like credit reports have a special category to track debt collection searches (which seem to stick around on the report for 2 years)

If it isn't on your credit report already, I doubt it is going to pop-up now, especially as you have disputed the debt with them.

  • great, hope it stays that way. thanks!
  • Quick update:

Wrote to their support again asking for their complaints process. No response. Have sent 2 daily reminders too but have heard nothing back.

As they had responded quite promptly (< 1 working hour) to my computations (if only to insist their bill was correct), I think they're intentionally choosing not to respond.

Apart from the idea of sending them the cheque for what my calculations indicate I owe them, is there any other way to escalate? OFGEM is out. I have spoken to Citizens Advice and they advised me to contact TE and ask for their complaints process, which I have already done.

My main concern is to avoid an impact on my credit report, but I'm not prepared to pay £500 that I don't owe.
