Economy 7 price
Hoping I can get some different view on an issue I'm facing as I'm looking about for info but feel very ill informed.
I live in a small 1 bed flat in Nottingham, the flat is a conversion of an old hospital building. The conversion was done in the 70/80s and so I have storage heaters - 3 heaters for the 3 main rooms in the flat.
I have actually replaced all of the storage heaters in the flat since moving in to more modern units since moving in in early 2019
Recently though I have been experiencing just an enormous hike in my quoted tariff costs though which is making living here a bit of a nightmare.
I am with the company SO energy and have been on their carrot tariff which ends at the end of the month. Looking around for new deals I am being quoted a minimum of 400 pounds recommended monthly direct debit from SO energy to be on one of their new tariffs ( the guava tariff)
This figure is just unmanageable for me - it is actually more than I pay monthly on my mortgage and would mean that along with ground rent I would be paying near 1000 per a month for a small 1 bed flat in the East Midlands.
This is an enormous increase on the 180 direct debit I pay each month - which is already above my energy usage amount - I am currently in around 350 in credit with SO energy as I roughly overpay around 60 pounds each month since they increased my direct debits 6 months ago. I keep very on top of my meter readings for this.
I have been trying to shop around and have ran into all sorts of troubles with having 2 MPANs linked to my Economy 7 meter. With companies such as OVO energy first agreeing then refusing to take my switch advising that they could not do it
OVO in particular I had read up did take on 2 MPANs but then gave the following explanation after continuously cancelling my transfer.
"Unfortunately, we have had to stop the transfer of your electricity supply as we do not currently have the functionality on our systems to apply for both electricity supplies. I'm sorry that means we are unable to supply your electricity.
I believe the best way to go about switching from your current supplier is to have them install a smart meter for you if they are able which should be able to facilitate both your day and night requirements which would then take away the need for the second meter and MPAN and you would be able to switch supplier. It is best to take this up with your current supplier as they would be able to better advise on this situation as they hold all of your current meter information."
And my current supplier SO energy are currently refusing to install a smart meter which would effectively transfer my 2 MPAN supplies to 1 and so allow me to shop around and consider other companies.
Is anyone going through a similar issue? - any help or advice much appreciated as I feel locked into living in this money draining situation at the moment or needing to sell my flat.
Many Thanks
Jake

If they run on daytime electricity then nothing is more expensive to run, and staying with E7 will make it even worse because the day rate is even more expensive than the single rate.Assuming that you can't get mains gas and that LPG, oil, or a heat pump / air conditioner aren't realistic then HHR NSHs (correctly programmed, especially if with only one supply circuit) are about as good as it gets.0

Rosie will call EDF for a quote and appreciate the Number!
Thanks for the advice Gerry, I did move to High Heat Retention Night Storage heaters. The storage heaters themselves aren't so much the issue and im very happy with the new units.
was more the price I was quoted for the monthly debits and the limitations of who I could be with with having the 2 MPANS1 -
Make sure you're paying only one standing charge.0
