Joint account with ex partner!

Hi, looking for some advice.
I recently managed to track down my ex who I had a joint account with.  His business went under and so he took an IVA in his name and consolidated everything.  When we split up I'd asked him to remove my name from the joint bank, long story short he didn't.  I eventually got him to the bank and we removed my name.  The problem is that the IVA he has set includes the debt that he ran up from our joint account after we had split up.  Even though the name/business etc was in his name.
This is making life difficult for me to now get credit, I checked my file and it has a note against it to say that the account default will be removed after 6 years!
Is there anything I can do?

Just keep your credit as good as you can. The default will reduce in impact over time.

Request the CRAs unlink you, request the bank stops reporting the account to your name

Thank you.  But wouldn't they assume that I also took the debt? wouldn't i need my ex to confirm that it's in his name only?

Of course he didn't. He couldn't. To do that takes both of you.

Yes, that is what they will have assumed but that is irrelevant as you cannot change past reporting.  You can only influence what is reported in your file going forwards.

Policies do vary between banks, so it's not always necessary for both parties to consent to this, but obviously if OP's ex had been permitted to do this unilaterally, then OP would also have been able to do so rather than expecting him to!

It doesn't have to, e.g. in the case of domestic abuse, the victim could do it to prevent the ex knowing where they were / avoid being in the same room. Similarly banks understand if someone has disappeared / refuses contact
