Energy renewal
I wonder if ant members can offer me advice.I am 73 year old male who lives in small studio flat in LS$ Leeds.I have 1 nighttime storage heater and usual daytime use ie washer ,oven etc.I am with OVO.
last year i was on beetter energy tariff 1 year fixed at rates of 24.09 daytime use and 11.11 nightime use with a fixed charge 24.99 for the 2 seperate meters which are on the outside of my property and for which i provide monthly readings.
because i have 2 seperate meters alot of companies will not quote .I live in Housing Association flat.
I was paying £116 per month ,which i thought quite expensive on the 1 year fixed. based on usage 8703 nightime use and 1439 daytime use.
They have offered me renewal terms £254 per month 2 year fixed or £471 per month better energy.
I can in no way afford these.
I have queried renewal but wonder if advice form members is to go onto a variable simpler tariff and pay per month .Also is it best to but perhaps for winter months a small convection heater and just use as heating in very cold spells.
Also i cannot understand how price cap is being applied. An increase of over 100% seems absurd.
Any views or comments would be welcome in these difficult times.

A few things:
- You need to provide unit rates for all tarriffs for the above to be meaningful
- The price cap is based on an average user. If you use more, you pay more

Energy prices have been increasing since about the middle of the year so there have been a few price hikes you have avoided due to the timing of your deal.
I am in exactly the same boat, my new fixed deal Direct Debit is now double what it was this time last year. Luckily I took the deal last week before the todays price hike so avoided todays price increase.

Your renewal terms are fixed rates and so are not capped.Based on the amount of electricity you are using, you are likely to be paying over £200/month for at least the next year. £417.month however is quite excessive.N.
