Equifax rubbish

Options
My daughter has been subject to identity fraud. She's spent hours on the phone for months. Experian have been brill cleared everything. Now she's found searches have appeared on Clearscore. Experian have advised other companies but clearscore just referred her to Equifax. They have been appalling  clearly following a script. She's getting 10s of emails each day but can't get through to anyone who isn't following a script. They say 'HSBC say its you' she replies but it isn't so what do I do now? They repeat HSBC say its you and nothing else. Experience have already wiped HSBC from her record and this is only one example. Any tips on job to deal with the Clearscore/Experian situation???

If the account is marked as having been subject to identity fraud then that should suffice, No need to get every search removed. Over time they'll age and become irrelevant in any event.
  • It's up to the lenders, not the CRA, to amend the entries.

If CRAs just took the word of the debtor that it was ID fraud and should be removed we'd all have flawless credit histories.

    Speak to HSBC...
  • This happened to me. No point calling the CRAs, just call the banks and tell them about the opening of fraudulent credit card accounts - then insist they remove the hard searches from the credit report. They should do this within a few weeks. Then put a password on each credit file using a notice of correction. Consider adding a CIFAS marker onto the credit report too. It means the banks need to call your daughter to contact her before a credit card application is approved to make sure she is the one making the application.

Thanks, she has a CIFAS notice but ringing the banks is really problematic as she can't get past security as we don't know what details they have used.

She can't get past security even as an HSBC customer?  She needs to just go through to them as normal, using her own details.

If that doesn't work then she will have to write to HSBC instead. But it's weird that she can't get through on the phone.

  • She's not an HSBC customer. She's never opened anything with them but the scum who used her identity to take credit out in her name did. So she doesn't know what details they used to do it. She doesn't know what email, phone number, account number etc. She has this problem with numerous companies and spends hours on the phone trying to sort it. It's exhausting, upsetting and frustrating. Costly too as she has to pay Experian each month. So it's annoying when other credit checking agencies haven't removed searches and won't when she rings despite a CIFAS being in place and a number of companies have raised CIFAS.. Having your identity stolen is horrendous.

No she doesn't.  All of the pertinent information is available from all the CRA's free of charge.
