Well, it seems I am up the creek without a paddle and must accept that the firm did no wrong, but nor were they prepared to act in a more understanding manner as were other insurers.

I appreciate that it is up to us to read terms and conditions but you don't always know what everything means or even know what to look for. Next time I might find an insurer who gives partial refunds on cancellation but might be unaware of something else they don't do that causes equal grief.

It all seems like a minefield and we are at the mercy of companies deliberately "hiding" important things in their T & Cs.

Hey ho, such is life. Glad I am not on State Benefits trying to pay my winter gas bill.

Some companies will give a pro rata refund on an annual policy but not in a single trip one.

Make a list of all the things you want covered the  you check them off against any policy you are considering.

Regarding taking out insurance when you first book the holiday ,if you walked out of the travel agents office in your local shopping centre and had taken out insurance before paying the deposit IF you tripped over going back to your car and fractured your leg you would be covered if unable to travel ,leave it till you come to pay the balance and if anything happened to you you would be financially stuffed ,that is why it pays to take insurance asap..
    100% Correct.

Other companies may charge all customers slightly more to cover such a refund policy. When it comes to business there's no charity although you might be believe that to be the perception from the actions taken.
