Hi I am looking for advice on prepaid travel cards for under 16’s for use in the USA. They are travelling with friends so any help would be most appreciated, thanks x

I think the OP means a card that is pre loaded with money.
  • Thanks eDicky but they have a Lloyds bank account already but using it abroad incurs charges. I was thinking about a preloaded card sheramber, one which I can preload with US dollars.

I know that you were asking about a prepaid card to load with dollars, but even if available for under under 16s they will involve fees and/or adverse exchange rates and cost even more to convert back any leftover bucks.
That's why I point to the FlexOne account which costs nothing to use overseas, even pays some interest I think, and converts to any currency at the time of transaction using the straight Visa rate, so no leftovers.
Having a bank account already doesn't prevent opening another, in general it's advised not to be limited to only one in case of various possible problems.
But if you prefer not to save money, I advise to just use the Lloyds debit card - even with the fees it's likely to be cheaper to use than 'preloading' dollars onto some kind of prepaid card, best to forget that idea.

Thank you that makes a lot of sense. I wasn’t aware a child could have more than one bank account. I would definitely want to save money, and I hadn’t even considered the fees that would be involved in converting any left over money on a prepaid card.

I will be looking into the FlexOne account tonight, once again thank you so much x
