Short stay parking - picking up from Heathrow

Help! I’m driving to Heathrow Terminal 3 at the weekend to pick up my son ( from Australia) who I’ve not seen for over 2 years due to the pandemic.
Thought I’d check out the short term car park charge and restrictions in advance as I remember it is always on the pricey side…… Well it’s now £66 for an hour or the same price for 2 hours.

I have used the car park before and this seems crazy. I wanted to avoid buses if possible as after such a long journey he would just want to get in the car and head home.
Does anyone know of parking where I could stop close enough to the airport to collect son and luggage without bus/ taxi journeys or do I just have to pay £66 for an hour?
Many thanks.

You get 30 mins free at the long stay so we have waited outside the airport and when the flight lands we go there and have time to go to the airport, meet travellers and get back.1

HiI might be looking at the wrong page or missing something but this seems to imply that the short stay charges are at least a little more reasonablehttps://www.heathrow.com/transport-and-directions/heathrow-parking/heathrow-short-stay-parking

turn up an pay on the day rather than pre book and the above charges will apply
if you pre book short stay they seem to charge for a minimum 24 hrs parking

Download a flight tracker on your phone, then park up somewhere away from the airport and wait until it's definitely landed before parking in the short stay."We act as though comfort and luxury are the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about” – Albert Einstein1

Where are you travelling from. If from the west, Reading services are close enough to track the flight, only roughly half an hour depending on traffic from there.0
