Windows 11 - Taskbar icons not working properly

I've got an issue with the icons on my taskbar not doing what they're supposed to be doing. Say I've got a couple of apps running like Word, Mozilla and Powerpoint. Normally you can switch between the three by clicking the app icons on the taskbar - if I'm looking at a word document and I want to switch to looking at Mozilla I click the Mozilla icon, want to switch to my powerpoint presentation I click the powerpoint icon, and so on. Except it doesn't always work. Clicking another app will sometimes "grey out" the screen I'm looking at but the app I click won't pop up. So I've got to minimize the apps until I find the one I need. What's weird is that it will sometimes work fine and I can't see any rhyme or reason as to when it works and when it doesn't. Any ideas what might be causing this or how to fix it?

Does Alt - Tab cycle through the open apps?
That is how I do it with Windows10.A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".0 -
It does. However, seems the problem was fixed by a simple restart of the laptop (which I obviously should have tried before opening a post in here!).

Sounds like you might have had a CPU load or RAM usage issue, which a restart has fixed.

After "upgrading" to Windows 11, I have noticed strange taskbar things happening. I run dual monitors and the taskbar icon on the second screen are all over the place. It was absolutely fine before being upgraded. So yeah, Windows 11 has a few niggling issues.0

Also you cant drag and drop files onto taskbar icons to bring the app into focus or open the app with the file. Hardly earth shattering issues but then there are hardly any earth shattering improvements either.

It's really useful if you have an explorer window open, and you want to open a file in another open app. In W10 I could drag the file onto the app icon, the app would open full screen, and I could then drag the file the rest of the way to wherever it went in the app. Used to do that all the time.Jenni_D said:
