Mothers Codicil

My mother has recently changed her solicitor. She has a codicil with her will which the new solicitor is questioning. The codicil reads:
Codicil to the Last Will and Testament of name.
I name, address being of sound mind, declare that this Codicil to the Last Will and Testament of name is effective on this date and shall hereby amend my Last Will and Testament dated 18th December 2016 as follows:
Paragraph 4 (a) shall be amended from “daughter-in-law name” to “Grandson name”.
The solicitor says that codicil may not be effective because it misses the final statement "in all other respects I confirm my said Will".
Is this correct?
Thank you.

Yes it is. It should say, in all other respects I confirm my Will. The solicitor is very remiss and should replace the Codicil with a corrected one at hi/her cost.I'm a retired IFA who specialised for many years in Inheritance Tax, Wills and Trusts. I cannot offer advice now, but my comments here and on Legal Beagles as Sam101 are just meant to be helpful. Do ask questions from the Members who are here to help.3

Codicils are an outdated way of amending wills, they are open to interpretation, errors and getting lost independently of the will, can't just staple to the existing.
I have had a solicitor that needed correcting due to their interpretation of a codicil.
Once a will is in electronic form amend, then print off a new one for signing and witness.
Any new codicil should be in electronic form first anyway, might as well bring everything upto date..

I will tell her it's OK and to get the will amended.0
