Morning, hugs if you need one.
The wind got very strong yesterday afternoon, but it has dropped now, the sky is a bit overcast with bits of red!! Red in the morning shepherds warning!! We can do without more rain.
Decorator, prepped everything yesterday, then popped off to another job that needed finishing, he is here all day today, so gloss and ceiling, he is papering tomorrow and painting the paper on Friday, then thats us until a week on Thursday when the carpet is coming. By that time I should also have the new curtains for the bedroom, it will be fun putting them up!!
Off to the little chapel this morning for coffee and a gossip...... it will be good to chat to someone else except DB.
Supper tonight is smoked haddock, poached egg and bread and butter. Have to make a bread and butter pudding with the half a tea cake from the fridge.11 -
Morning everyone
Got up and fed the cats and made my breakfast and came back to bed with my laptop for a browse. I plan to give the bathroom a quick clean and perhaps walk down to mam and dads for a cuppa later. It's only 10 minutes each way. After yesterday's trip to the doctors, I was shattered and had a nap for a couple of hours in the afternoon! The doctor suggested another week off would be a sensible idea - so I'll follow her advice. I feel bad about being off so long, but know I couldn't manage it yet.
The man who came to look at my garden can do the work in a couple of weeks time, so that's good - he's going to straighten and fix the shed, dig some of the grass out, put gravel and kerb stones down and jet wash everything. I've also asked him to make me a wooden sand table for little one, to replace the plastic one that blew away in November.
Hopefully the council will have moved the broken fences from my garden by then.
Biggest cat has just come up and got comfy on my bed, which is unusual - he's not going to be happy though as I'm moving!
Have a good day everyone x

Oh Deleted_User smoked haddock and poached eggs with bread and butter sounds delicious, I haven't had that for yonks, I shall put smoked haddock on my shopping list for my next shopping trip hopefully the end of next week. As I had a small roll over of cash from January to February with my food budget its going to be my treat for mid February I have a lovely wet fish shop near where I live so I may have to price it up in there first.

Morning all. Plans today include more hoovering, and a lunch out with a friend. Haven't seen her for a few weeks so catch up gossip on the cards. This means negotiating the bus service and digging the change out of the jar since money seems to be virtual these days, I never seem to have cash in my wallet, or at least not enough change. I also have to book a blood test for what should hopefully be the last infusion this Sunday. Food tonight is the same as last night but I'll be complaining to the SM about the potatoes. All black under the skin, by the time I peeled them, I had to go and buy some more. Good job I was posting something I sold on ebay...another thing out of the house. Since I did the mad declutter last year, now I'm getting the odd thing out by selling it and it's much more manageable than trying to sell everything and less overwhelming to think about or do.Ruby, what breed is your big pup? Have I asked before? I can't remember...Glad she's got a better vet now. Izzy, trade him in! Scarlet, i did make some tangerine marmalade last year with leftovers from the Lidl veg box, even if they're seet, they'll still be nice, that's if you didn't want to make curd. If you do make it, a recipe please?
Jackie, when are you not busy?
good to hear your SIL is rallying. Coxy, enjoy the film..apparently in the book it takes him 10,000 years...snoozer,I'm envious of you're baking, I'm never organised enough to work out what needs doing and when for the most part, and well done on new sewing room appearance. Nelski, I tried the jamie oliver sprout cooking, the thinly sliced in a thingy one with pancetta and worcestershire sauce, OH loved it, it's weirdly very meaty. Coleslaw sounds cool too, I have some sprouts at the ready, maybe tomorrow. TA, sorry about your power cut, I wonder sometimes are we regressing to the seventies in some places..never London though eh? Anyway, have a good day if you can, hugs if you can't...

I'm just taking 15 minutes while the cinnamon buns are in the oven. I hope they turn out as well as the last batch, the shortbread biscuits have come out well but I think I made a mistake weighing the butter, they are very short. Taff, I don't do as much baking as I'd like because everyone complains that they are getting fat because they have no will power. Esben loves cinnamon buns though and the star biscuits and he runs off every speck of fat. I will be making a birthday cake for Steve at the weekend though.
Looking out of the window I can see a snowdrop, they are quite late this year but I love seeing them, especially as they were transplanted from mum's garden.

Morning all. Weather here today is back to dull and grey with some drizzle but it feels milder and, better still, the wind has finally dropped. Last night was a beautiful sunset, the sky looked as if it was on fire.
SM delivery later today and email tells me there is just one sub and no out of stocks. Not that I'm getting everything I wanted as some items weren't available at the time of ordering anyway.
I've decided to use the cash left over from last month's grocery budget to renew my delivery pass for a year. A mid-week slot without a pass costs £4 or £4.50 per delivery depending on the time of day. With one, it works out at £0.77 if I do an order every week (unlikely) and £1.54 if it's every other week (more likely). And it's cheaper than a monthly pass too. I sometimes think it's an extravagance but we don't have a car and I'm getting too old to be lugging bags around. I have a trolley but have to admit it gets the better of me most of the time. Limited choice of shops too.
Last night's corned beef hash was lovely and we had some of the Yorkies from the weekend with it. Tonight we're having prawn & lemongrass fishcakes with side salad. Haven't had these before so fingers crossed.
Signs of spring outside my living room. We don't have a garden (ground floor maisonette) but do have a small patio where I keep half a dozen large planters. These have been sadly neglected since Covid reared its head (couldn't get any compost etc) and I'd decided to start again this year as they seem to be full of weeds. Three of them though are showing signs of life - one with daffodils, a second with tulips and a third with what I think might be hyacinths.
Nothing in particular planned for the rest of the day so I might get back to sorting the fabric stash. I've already decided on what I know I will use and what for, that's stored in a suitcase that goes under the bed in the spare room. But there's a big pile of "undecideds" that needs attention.
Hugs to anyone needing one, stay safe, rest for the not so well. We all need some TLC sometimes. XBe kind to others and to yourself too.12 -
I'm back. You can tell I'm not feeling like doing much today! I've had a half-hearted attempt at going through the fabric stash but soon gave up - I know I won't be happy with my efforts unless I'm in the right frame of mind. And there's always tomorrow!
SM delivery has been and everything's been listed/portioned/frozen/put away. I did have to do a bit of freezer juggling so there are things not in the drawers I like them in but it is all in. I've spent a few pennies over £30 on groceries so won't need another delivery for two weeks. If I can get through this month with two deliveries and a walk in between to the Co-op for fresh milk and maybe some F&V I'll be a happy bunny.
One of the things I got was a tray of chicken drumsticks for £1.49. Once cooked and the meat stripped off there should be enough for 3 meals for us. I'm thinking a Thai green chicken curry, stir-fry and a West Country style casserole. And then there's the stock for soup base. Fortunately, I've always enjoyed cooking so it's no hardship for me. I also like to see just what I can make out of "not a lot" - it must be OK as there are never any complaints!
I have a very dog-eared recipe book that used to be my Granny's (born 1880), possibly from the 1930s or thereabouts, with all the recipes coming from housewives in the Bradford/Leeds area. The cover and some of the front/back pages are missing and all are brown with age, but I often look through it for inspiration. Very down to earth recipes that don't cost an arm and a leg. It probably gets used more than today's fancy cookery books too.
Right, the heating has just clicked in so it will soon be time to close the curtains. No red skies, I think it's too grey and dull.Be kind to others and to yourself too.9 -
