Online gambling accounts

Hi all,

Over the past 18 months I have noticed a couple of entries on my credit file for which Anti Money Laundering checks were done by online betting companies.  I have never used these sites so was clearly alarmed to see these searches.

the odd things is that the checks were done using my old home address which is why I don’t understand how the the online account was verified.  I haven’t lived at my old address for years.

If someone could shed some light I would be grateful.

All the search record does is show you that an application was made in your name at that address, it doesn't mean that the identity check was successful as far as the gambling company is concerned. It could well be the case that the check failed to meet the requirements and therefore the account couldn't be opened based on that check.

Thank you, that’s really helpful.  Not sure really what to do to make this stop……

Me too, i check all three credit files on a monthly basis (ClearScore, CreditKama, MSE) and roughly every 3 months i have soft searches on my credit files from Online gambling companies and there nothing to do with me.

i don't understand why this is happening, can anyone shed any light on what is going on please?

if you are worried ask for protective registration at the cra (s)

It's possible there might have been some confusion or mix-up regarding your old address.
