Octopus Go
Hi all,
I've been following the advise from Martin and been sticking with my SVR with Scottish Power at 20.20p per kw and a standing charge of 26.46p.
But i'm wondering whether I would be better moving to octopus with their go tariff which is charged at 7.5p per kw (12:30-4:30am) and a day rate of 29.64p and a standing charge of 26.46p. Especially if the predictions of the price cap increasing in April comes true.
I've got an electric vehicle which I add 24kw to per day, five times a week. My household usage is between 10-15kw daily. I'm thinking I could charge the car on the four hour cheaper rate and move some of my household items, such as water heating overnight too.
Any advise appreciated.

Only you can do the sums. I am on Octopus Go Faster and I am able to move a very large amount of my usage to the offpeak period. That said, the recent increase in Go’s peak price has resulted in a number of EV owners switching from Go to a standard E7 tariff. Put simply, what matters is the peak:offpeak ratio.0

In your particular case, you're using 120kWh for your EV and 100kWh for your home every week.
- (100+120)kWh on the current SP SVR would cost £44.44
- 120kWh at 7.5p plus 100kWh at 29.64p would cost £38.64
The Go and SP standing charges are close enough that we can ignore them. You'll save around £6 a week on Go (more if you can move domestic loads to the off-peak period).Note also that the SP SVR is likely to increase by enough in April that your 220kWh could then cost £60, not £44, while Go is fixed for 12 months.N. Go for it. Just make sure you have a compatible smart meter before you switch to Octopus.0
