I bought a secondhand car from a dealer on auto trader on 20th August 2021 for about £3.2k. Last week the clutch went and it’s cost me over £2k to get it back on the road. The dealer gave me a warranty with the car but of course warranty wise won’t pay a penny of it 🙄 friends and family are advising me the dealer should take some responsibility for it as I only bought it 5 months ago, is this true? I’ve tried emailing them twice but haven’t heard back…
Debt was £15,903 😬 Now £2718.14 £0 😲🥳

Normal wear and tear on clutches is never covered by warranties. What was the age of the car when you bought it, how many miles had it done and how many miles have you added to it?1

The car is secondhand. You looked at the service history prior to buying presumably. Considered whether any items could require replacing given the mileage and age. Some drivers are heavy on the clutch. Not the dealers responsibilty to shoulder costs.1

Was the problem with the clutch that it had worn out or was there a mechanical failure?
Clutches are designed to wear out with use and are consumable items which are not usually covered by any warranties on secondhand cars, especially 5 months after purchase.
A replacement clutch with labour should not cost anywhere near £2k for anything other than a very high performance car. What had to be replaced and what car is it?1 -
Was the need to replace solely down to worn clutch material or some other fault?
So if that was the original clutch, the need to replace at this mileage wouldn't be unusual. £2K for a simple clutch replacement seems excessive, I paid about £250 the last time I needed one.1 -

ok cool, people keep linking me up to a which article and saying the dealer has some responsibility as I’ve had it under 6 months, I’m not into cars so I didn’t knowDebt was £15,903 😬 Now £2718.14 £0 😲🥳0 -
sorry I should of said, it’s an automatic so more complicated apparently, I had to take it to the main dealer as no one else would work on it. I think it’s safe to say this will be my first and last automatic 😅
