Royal Mail barcoding stamps - existing stamps valid only until 31 Jan 2023

If you send in 10p stamps, then you should get barcoded 10p stamps in return. But if you send in £1.17 stamps, then you will get back 2nd class stamps to the value of the £1.17 stamp because there is no barcoded £1.17 stamp. Barcoded make up stamps will be available but for some reason, only in currency denominations e.g. 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p etc. It used to be the case that specific make up stamps were also issued, to make up the value between rates, such as a 19p stamp to make up the difference between 1st and 2nd but that no longer happens.amandapeart said:
But all they send me is multiple 2nd class barcoded stamps - and will there no longer be any mechanism to "make up" values, which 5p, 10p, 50p, etc. stamps have always done? RM are still advertising them for sale, as "useful".gt94sss2 said:You will need to swap them

Thanks for that link, Money_Grabber13579, the last time I looked RM were still advertising the non-barcoded ones. I wish they would send me ones nearer to the value of what I send in - say, 10 £1 ones plus the rest as 2nd class if I send in 10 x £1.17, instead of just endless 2nd class ones (and they do round up so it can cost them up to 67p more!).0

I had loads of small denomination stamps, like 2p 5p 10p 20p et and they were all swapped like for like. So for instance at the moment for a LL 2nd class up to 100g I am using a definitive 1st class (95p) and a new barcoded 10p to make up the correct value.amandapeart said:

Most of mine (not picture stamps which luckily will still be valid!) are over £1, many of them somewhere between £2.25 and £3.60, and all I get are 100s of basic 2nd class ones in return. Trying to use those to send abroad for instance, would more than cover the envelope! :-)0

Then your only option would be to try and use them now before the 2023 cut off. Although remember how much a basic stamp is now (68p for 2nd class) so you won't be faced with vast amounts .amandapeart said:Most of mine (not picture stamps which luckily will still be valid!) are over £1, many of them somewhere between £2.25 and £3.60, and all I get are 100s of basic 2nd class ones in return. Are they close enough to current values that you can use them in combination (or with a few small value stamps)? e.g. you have a £2.25 so you add 30p to make £2.55 for a letter to USA. You pay out a bit extra now and then swap the leftovers at the last moment in January.amandapeart said:Most of mine (not picture stamps which luckily will still be valid!) are over £1, many of them somewhere between £2.25 and £3.60, and all I get are 100s of basic 2nd class ones in return. Well, I've received large boxes from the US that were completely covered in stamps, something like this https://www.reddit.com/r/mildlyinteresting/comments/hrqyzj/this_box_i_received_today_was_covered_in_mid1970s/
And I've posted things not quite as severe but nearly so in the UK, once I had about a thousand 8p stamps and used them to make up 750g large letters, had to make boxes at the maximum permitted size so they'd all fit.
Anyway I wanted to ask if anyone has received compensation for missing items with new stamps yet - does RM still send 6 first class (barcoded) when the compo due is under £5.70?0 -
I put in a claim a few weeks ago for missing contents and received 8 1st class stamps. The letter was a bit confusing because they said they could only refund the postage paid, but I’d definitely not put 8 1st class stamps on it!hermante said:Well, I've received large boxes from the US that were completely covered in stamps, something like this https://www.reddit.com/r/mildlyinteresting/comments/hrqyzj/this_box_i_received_today_was_covered_in_mid1970s/

I’ve always had a cheque , even for really small amounts - the item cost plus postage as claimed.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. It used to be 6 for significantly delayed or for failing to get a signature on "Signed For" too. I assume the 6 was because that was the size of the booklet. On MoneyGrabber's evidence that might now be 8.hermante said:Anyway I wanted to ask if anyone has received compensation for missing items with new stamps yet - does RM still send 6 first class (barcoded) when the compo due is under £5.70?I need to think of something new here...0
