  • Most of mine (not picture stamps which luckily will still be valid!) are over £1, many of them somewhere between £2.25 and £3.60, and all I get are 100s of basic 2nd class ones in return. Trying to use those to send abroad for instance, would more than cover the envelope! :-)

Then your only option would be to try and use them now before the 2023 cut off. Although remember how much a basic stamp is now (68p for 2nd class) so you won't be faced with vast amounts .

Are they close enough to current values that you can use them in combination (or with a few small value stamps)?  e.g. you have a £2.25 so you add 30p to make £2.55 for a letter to USA.  You pay out a bit extra now and then swap the leftovers at the last moment in January.

Well, I've received large boxes from the US that were completely covered in stamps, something like this https://www.reddit.com/r/mildlyinteresting/comments/hrqyzj/this_box_i_received_today_was_covered_in_mid1970s/

And I've posted things not quite as severe but nearly so in the UK, once I had about a thousand 8p stamps and used them to make up 750g large letters, had to make boxes at the maximum permitted size so they'd all fit.

Anyway I wanted to ask if anyone has received compensation for missing items with new stamps yet - does RM still send 6 first class (barcoded) when the compo due is under £5.70?

I put in a claim a few weeks ago for missing contents and received 8 1st class stamps. The letter was a bit confusing because they said they could only refund the postage paid, but I’d definitely not put 8 1st class stamps on it!

I’ve always had a cheque , even for really small amounts - the item cost plus postage as claimed.

It used to be 6 for significantly delayed or for failing to get a signature on "Signed For" too.  I assume the 6 was because that was the size of the booklet.  On MoneyGrabber's evidence that might now be 8.

I thought stamps was compensation for delays etc. A cheque would surely be for lost mail where you had a COP.

Oh yes that’s right, thinking back to when I had issues with signed for (many years ago) I made a fair bit of money with getting books of stamps for things not being signed for correctly . All my cheques have been for lost items.

Yep, in my case, the contents of the envelope has gone missing but they said I couldn’t prove evidence of value (I had an eBay sales note) so just gave me stamps. I was happy enough, because the stamps have a greater value than the item!
