TYNE TUNNEL PAYMENTS FINES

Hi , In November the Tyne Tunnel went over to a cashless system of payment, whereby date / time of passage is recorded by a number plate recognition camera,.  Then you get 24 hours to pay on-line.    I went through the tunnel on the way back from a holiday in Northumberland , and not being familiar with the system as I do not live in the area , I didnt pay the passage fee.    So a while later a received a fixed penalty 'fine' .   My question : Is this similar to a private parking charge and so is it an Invoice, not a fine?   I just want to understand the right way to contest it.

As we major on private parking tickets here, PePiPoo will be your best bet for council tickets. Register there but please note that a hotmail address won't work - try using a throwaway gmail account instead if you do have trouble registering and post a new thread; here's your link:

Have a read through some of the other threads there before you post your own to get the hang of what information they need from you in your opening post - but as a minimum you will need to post redacted photos/scans of all correspondence you've received from the council (both sides, if appropriate) as they need to see all the small print.

Also, unless he was holidaying in Whitley Bay, a strange way to go back down south from Northumberland 🤔

Yes, a huge amount of signage, it’s very clear that you need to pay.

I’m all for protesting against dodgy parking companies trying to have you over for overstaying in a Sports Direct car park, but the Tyne Tunnel cost hundreds of millions of pounds, and it’s not really excusable to just try to wriggle out of paying.

I recieved a letter from them telling me I hadn't paid for 1 journey on the 15/02/23 but this is the first ever time I have recieved anything from them and it's now with there legal side I tried to call them and ask what it was about as I never use the tyner tunnel never need to my maps and sat nav are set up to avoid any toll roads. They sent me the original pcn through email which I never ever recieved, what can I do in regards to this as I I never knew anything about it, if I had of recieved the original pcn I would have paid but because I didn't I haven't.
