Pest control

Hi there, 

One of our neighbours has informed us that they have found some rat holes on their side of the fence near their BBQ and their BBQ cover has been shredded. 

Our neighbour has informed us that this is our problem/we are the cause  and we need to sort it out.

We have attempted to explain that there is nothing in our garden that would be attracting rats - we no longer put bird food out and haven't done so for about 2-3 years and we keep the garden as well maintained as we can in the weather.  The neighbour however chucks treats/bones out in their back garden for their dogs and we have attempt to explain to them that this is likely attracting the rats and have recommended that they put some bait or traps down, however, they have said they don't want to do this.  We also suggested that they contact the local council environmental health as I think they charge £50 and come out four times, but again the neighbour is against this. 

On inspecting our side of the fence, we have found a hole that goes underneath the adjoining fence (and directly under his BBQ)  and have put some shop bought bait down and covered it over, though I appreciate this isn't the strongest stuff. 

I have just tried to to go on the Council's website to request pest control for our side of the fence, however, the service is temporarily suspended due to high demand. I just wondered if there is anything else we can do - I have tried Rentokil but can't seem to get a quote from them but I recall someone telling me it was about £200 and they do the same job as the council just for more money.
