Cost of insuring an electric moped.

I was planning to buy a s/h electric moped (a Niu U) for just less than a grand. I expected to cover no more than 2000 miles a year. Cheapest quote I could get was £430, which is £100 more than I pay for my car insurance. So much for my plan to help save the planet.

Annoyingly expensive but motorbikes are often targetted by thieves.

What level of cover are you looking at? Not up on bike pricing but some seem to suggest TPO cover is cheaper than TPFT or Comp unlike in Car... obviously means you can only claim for damage you cause to others but given the likely secondhand value, excess etc it may not be a big difference.
Presumably you also have no NCD to use on a motorbike which will also explain a difference to your car insurance0 -
28MPH top speed....
Do you have a motorbike licence? As not sure when the rules were changed around having to take a seperate test for mopeds. Rather than it being a add on to a car licence. Which I know it was in the late 70's.Life in the slow lane0
