Tax on PILON if made redundant

I am being made redundant at the end of February. where the process takes a while it is possible to convert PILON(some/all) to compensation by actually working some notice and topping up the compensation.

A lot of places like to keep total control of the time line by offering 100% PILON and not having to issue notice till the last day.
