Well, having measured the actual gas used with a big overhead shower i can tell you that (on the std Octopus rate of 3.94/kWh with a 10 year old Vaillant 837 28kw combi boiler) a

3 minute shower uses 1.32kWh or 5.2p (one reading)
4 minute shower uses 1.88kWh or 7.4p (average of 7 readings)
5 minute shower uses 2.14kWh or 8.4p (average of 6 readings)
6 minute shower uses 2.39kWh or 9.4p (one reading)
Have not taken a shower longer than 6 minutes

    To work out an electric shower - your 8kw shower used for 6 minutes will use 10% (6 min / 1 hour ) of 8kw  = 0.8kwh = (at Octopus tarriif of 19.89/kWh) 15.9p

    All include VAT

  • you're welcome.
Just measured my big overhead shower. Its 180mm.
Boiler water temp set at 48C.
Don't know what it goes up to when having a shower but when having a bath it goes up to about 62C (no idea why it goes to 62C when set at 48C.).
For your interest , a bath full to overflow uses 5.84kWh or 23p (average of 9 readings)
