Hey people!
I bought a financed car back in November 2021, 27th to be exact, a 2011 bmw 330d.
1 days after purchase, the car started to have a few issues, which I reported to the dealership.
In fairness, they were on the ball, asked me to get a diagnosis of the car, forward to them and go from there, this was done, 23 fault codes in total (understandable due to the age of car).
the dealer advised I get a particular item of that fault list replaced and that should solve my issues , they also said I can take to a garage of local choice, which again, I did..
they replaced the items, and in fairness THOSE fault codes regarding said item (glow plugs), were remove and stayed out of system.
That doesn’t solve the others I had though, swirl flap/DPF/exhaust gas recirculation valve/misfire.
i was under the impression based off their advice that this could of been resolved with the advice they gave me in regards to getting those glow
Plugs changed.
long and short, I contacted them and reported that the fault codes were still there, other than glow plugs, they told me to go to another garage, which I did (I searched for a highly recommended one off Google).
they have had the car for a few days, and diagnosed that there is 6 permanent faults, 2 of which MUST be replaced before they can begin to diagnose the other 4 further.
this has totalled a quote of replacement parts currently of £1390, I can’t imagine that the dealership is going to pay this, due to the fact this would be just the beginning of the actual diagnoses repairs.
my question is, if the dealer asks for the car back as they can ‘do it cheaper themselves’ do I stand my ground and request genuine only parts? Being a performance diesel, I want only the best for the car, based off experience, cheap parts on a high performance car do not work well.
if they refuse, am I also entitled to the car being rejected/returned? As these faults I would assume were there when sold to me, as they were in the system
Within 1 day of ownership (annoyingly they didn’t throw engine lights for me to actually know there was issues until the day later).
apologies for long winded post, but want to give as much detail as I possibly can!

First step is to speak to the dealer in the morning and see what they say.1

to them via email as they requested.
the quote and full diagnosis sheet the technicians have logged, so will see what they say.
i have a sneaky feeling it’s going to be a no, but back to my original question, am I within my right to request genuine/oem parts if they do decide they’re going to fix it?

As its an older year then less so - more "reasonably free from defects" argument - but its tricky due to age and miles
No I doubt you can demand OEM parts but you can a repair that is done with "reasonable care and skill"
Check here thoroughly before you panic or before you demand anything from them - be nice - and say little - don't get emotional. Plenty of people on here help you out. You can also call Citizens Advice consumer helpline: 0808 223 1133

they need to send out an independent technician who will determine whether the faults were there at point of sale.
will hear the dealership out tomorrow and see what they say, the garage it’s at currently say that they will not do the repairs anywhere else for less than £1000, due to the faults it has.£150 to test 6 injectors, if one has failed, that is a further £350+vat added to the bill.

Low miles aren't universally good. Regularly serviced paying attention to manufacturer's schedule with high miles is better than low miles and patchy servicing.1
