I don't have to do a thing?
30 Jan 2022.
Using Shell Energy app, they have now listed more options. Based on previous payments to Green (£56 pcm), it is understandable that d/d must increase because of the unbelieveable rise in wholesale prices. They recommended an increase to £97 pcm but, reading on further, stated it would be advisable to pay £153 pcm.
OFGEM average yearly cost for household fuel is £1300-£1400?
Correct me if I am wrong. This is a 2 bed terraced house, 3 occupants (one aged 94). Warm home discount declined 7 Jan 2022. I'll be paying £1836 a year based on Shells d/d calculations and "if I'm in credit after 12 months - I can ask for it back".
It has taken 139 DAYS to complete the transfer. I have paid Shell Energy £518.08p and am now in debit by £117.34p
I "don't have to do a thing" except pay Shell energy £691.42p to cover the period 13 nov 2021-12 Jan 2022. (according to billing information).

This so called "don't have to do a thing" transfer of Energy supplier has been a stress raising 139 day complete and utter pain.

What is your typical annual consumption of gas and electricity, in kWh please? If you tell us this info we can calculate a monthly payment.
Note that your tariff might increase in April, so whatever we calculate will need to change then.

Thousands of people have been in the same boat. Somebody has to be last. That's life.

I.A.W. Green Final Statement from the end of August, the useage figures are:
    Gas  (annual consumption) 9315 kWh
    Elec (annual consumption) 3856kWH

Calculating the d/d instruction requested by Shell Energy, it comes out as an increase of 173.21% and this will be before any further hikes come April. We have reduced gas consumption as much as we reasonably can given that we are now caring for my wifes 94 year old mother, factoring in the time of year/ambient temperature and what have you....same with electricity. I will obviously have to increase d/d upwards to Shells 2nd suggestion of £97 pcm rather than what I think is a massive payment of £153 pcm
which could change again in the next 3 months.
Yes we are all in the same boat - I'm just trying to stop my bit of the boat from going under.

Thanks for the numbers. You're a lower than average gas user but roughly 1/3rd more than average when it comes to electricity. Do you know why your electricity use is higher? Some people, for example, try using electricity to heat one room rather than gas central heating to heat the whole house but with electricity currently 5x the price of gas per kWh that rarely makes financial sense.
    • On the current cap your annual bill would be a little under £1400/yr, around £115/month if you make 12 equal payments.
    • When the cap rises in April this could become £2100/yr, £175/month.
Sorry, that's just what the numbers work out as.

  • Electricity consumption is probably due to having 2 x extra oil filled radiators going several hours each day and also daily use of condensing tumble drier and washing machine plus electric blankets on bed and in living room. Additional expense for this was inevitable.
I suppose that we had all become used to shopping around for our household fuel and never really expected to have this choice effectively removed from our things to do list.
    I appreciate your input.

If there's any way to heat these rooms with your central heating, rather than using electricity, you're likely to make a saving.

Barring some huge Black Swan event (like Spring 2020, when industry shut down and energy demand plummeted) cheap energy isn't likely to be back for some time. A year or more, possibly *much* more.
