Anyone kept fixed Eon tariff when they've moved house?

We are moving, likely sometime in Feb, to a house 3 doors down.  Same street, same postcode.
We currently have a fixed rate tariff with Eon and I can see the new property is also supplied by eon.  There are 18m left on the tariff so I'm obviously keen to stay on it.

I saw something on the eon website which seemed to imply I might be able to move my tariff with me when I move, but has anyone recently done this?  Is it actually possible and did it go through OK?

Thank you.

  • When you move into a new property there will be an existing supplier. You will be on what is known as a deemed contract with that supplier from the moment that you take responsibility for the property. Some suppliers will agree that if you switch back to them within a given timescale, you can take your existing tariff with you subject to regional cost changes. You will though have to pay the deemed supplier until any switch goes through. It is therefore in your best interests to contact them with your details and a meter reading. If you don’t, the deemed supplier may block the switch.

I would get something in writing from your existing supplier to the effect that it will honour your existing contract if you switch back to them.
  • Hi,
when you move in you will be on a 'deemed contract' with previous supplier to the new property, (EON), though you will not be able to automatically keep your existing contract.
You will need to talk to them and hope they allow a switch.
Remember to read meters at old house, new house, and provide readings to EON.
Once signed up you can switch supplier, if you can find a better deal..

In these unusual times I think it unlikely that EON will treat this as anything other than a normal house move. Close the account at your current address, and open a new account as the incumbent supplier at the new address. Your tariff at your current place will be ended, and the best you can hope for at the new place is the Standard Variable Tariff. By all means call them up on the day of the move and provide the closing readings of your current place and the opening readings at the new one. At least as they are the supplier at both places you will be able to make just one call and plead with them!

All you can do is ask E.ON and see what they say...
If E.ON are the existing supplier at the new address it makes it easier, but they still have no obligation to agree, no matter how short a distance you are moving.
Leaving your current house will terminate your contract, it is up to E.ON to decide if they will let you stay on the same tariff at the new address.

To clarify, the eon website says in bold:

"  If we're your energy supplier for your old home, we'll make it easy for you to take your current energy tariff with you to your new home. "

This is why I thought it might be possible.

In that case it sounds like E.On might be one of the companies that will let you do this. You should contact them and ask for confirmation.

It is possible, but I'm sure I've seen at least one person on here having problems getting it done.
Quite a lot of the suppliers used to do this as it was profitable to retain customers, lately that has been less of a motivation.
Just need to ask them and with luck you'll be OK.

Just wanted to update that after a lot of stressing and a few glitches along the way, we were able to transfer our existing fixed rate tariff to our new address.

If anyone is moving, please make sure you look into this with your provider.   We moved Eon next to a house that was also already with Eon next - not sure if this made a difference.

By achieving this we can get an extra 18 months on our fixed tariff which should make a big difference.

    Good to know.
That is E.ON and EDF recently confirmed as being willing to transfer the tariff.
