Cars with big boots

Hi everyone, I am looking for a new (second-hand) car and would welcome some suggestions.  I need something cheap and not too big but I need a big, easily accessible boot as I have two big dogs (a lab and an American bulldog). I can't really afford more than £5k. Any ideas welcome. Thank you.

You should be able to get a decent Skoda Octavia, Superb, Roomster or Yeti for that sort of money.

This great site will give you dimensions on any car you are interested in - and thing like boot lip height. https://www.ridc.org.uk/features-reviews/out-and-about/car-search

Skoda Yeti. Great for dogs as most of the interior can be easily washed down. Or, get a small van, such as a VW Caddy C20 Life, Peugeot Partner Tepee or Rifter, Citroen Berlingo etc.

An estate car, or a van-based car (think Berlingo) would likely get you a far better value, choice and condition at £5k budget than an off-road style SUV which are more desirable.

We have a Cmax good size boot and rear seats removable for a huge one.
  • Ford Focus Estates are very popular with dog walkers around our way, at least 3 of the local dog walkers have one.

Skoda Octavia Estate (you're in Mk 2 models at that price) are cavernous in the back. My little rescue Cavapoo has a bed in one corner, but there's room for a Mastiff, a couple of Danes and a GSD in the rest. The boot of the Octavia saloon is similarly huge, but the roof is lower and might be claustrophobic for a dog. Skodas are generally good value for money if you aren't a slave to badges, always do better than most in reliability surveys, and mine at least is a nice drive. I love it.

I misread the title, thought you were looking for something with big boots:

Seriously though, add the Honda CRV to your list. They appear at the top of the reliability lists and are peanuts to maintain, even using main dealers.
