Good Morning well I certainly checked first with the guy who empties the bin in the precinct before I put anything in there, and he said it was fine as long as it well wrapped up and sealed, as mine is . I would hate to think dumping something I shouldn't in there, I'm a pretty law abiding old lady
Well today was the first day this month that I went to my little shopping precinct for some odds and ends to topple up until I go away on Christmas Eve until the New Year.
I'm pretty pleased this morning that my food purse budget is still pretty full ,as in total I only spent £10.76 on food stuff. I keep roughly to a budget of around between £60-75 per month, so this month I think I will have a decent chunk left over. I come home from the IoW on 1st January so will resume shopping then I expect .Looking at my supplies I've bought plus what I already have in stock I don't think I need to food shop for the rest of the month .I am out for several evenings to dinner so I think I only have about 9 main meals to sort out before I go away. In fact tonight I've just dug out of the freezer a piece of rib-eye steak and some mash and green beans for tonights meal. I will probably have some tinned fruit and a dollop of ice cream for pudding Lunch will be some chicken soup from the freezer and some grated cheese and crackers and I had some porridge for breakfast so all meals today sorted. I bought just a few things I had run out of this morning a little fresh fruit which I like and some eggs and a few other bits and bobs. I'm really pleased that I'm able to run down some of the freezer this month as I want to give it a decent defrost in the New Year.
The shops seem to be full of Christmas tat where I live, and nothing really appeals to me much. Lots of folk looking but like me not many buying at all. Some of it is really overpriced and I'm waiting till the new Year before buying any stuffing mixes as they usually get the fancy ones reduced in January and I stock up for the rest of the yearI use stuffing mixes often instead of breadcrumbs, as a Scotch egg coated with fancy stuffing mix is really tasty in the summer in a salad instead of boring breadcrumbs.
All my Christmas presents are bought and wrapped thank goodness and not having to rush around like a thing possessed as I used to do is lovely .
I don't eat them but has anyone noticed the price of crisps lately ,for goodness sake they are only thin slices of potatoes, the big companies must feel like their printing money for the price of them I'm glad I never was very keen on them at allI doubt there is a quarter of a spud in a packet .But children seem to love them ! ! !
Ah well time for another cuppa I spotted a big case of 6 litres of UHT milk reduced to just over £4.00 so that was snaffled this morning as its dated to August next year. also the Tesco metro were selling at 16p a pop some cartons of chopped tomatoes, also very long dated so I got four of those as well reduced from 85p they will come in handy for cooking. Mind I was in the shop at 08.30 this morning so just hit the right time for some reason.

More tat than my 9 year old daughters bedroom who has a lifetime collection of Barbie.Wise people, can I ask two questions.1) I have made my veggie sister in law a veggie en croute for Xmas dinner. The taste test on Sunday went well - I made one for the freezer and froze pre baking. There are no freezing instructions on the recipe. It’s just roasted veg wrapped in puff pastry. Should I cool from frozen on the big day or defrost then cook?
2) having said sister in law to stay has made me notice the date of our house and we have a bit of a moth problem. Any suggestions what to do to control them? They’re tiny tiny silver things that are drawn to the wi does during the day. We live in a timber frame house so I’m wondering if they live in the crevices.6 -
Can't help with the moth problem but the veggie en croute I would defrost and then cook. If you try to cook from frozen the filling may not get hot enough by the time the pastry is cooked.
