Wednesday2000 said:Elisheba said:I cut my own hair. Found a nice easy way to do a layered style on YT, and as my hair is wavy it hides any mistakes. It's one of those things I never really mention to people in real life though, as everyone seems to think you are a bit mad if you cut your own hair 😂
I've had so many overpriced, not great haircuts, that I would much rather do my own. Its very long and a loose curl, so as you say, hides any mistakes! I tell everyone, no idea if they think I'm mad - though I suspect my many other frugal ways have already convinced them of that£12k in 25 #14 £12,535.33/£18k 24 #14 £15,653.11/£18k 23 #14 £17,195.80/£18k 22 #20 £23,024.86/£23k11 -
Today's weather here is much brighter with sunny intervals and I think we may have dodged any showers. I hope it's the same tomorrow as I have an appointment for an eye test. It's a long walk there and back - I shall take my brolly with me, just in case.
Usual weekly Co-op trip today for a small top-up shop but I'll put my hands up to buying a few extras from the ys section - two large flat mushrooms, strawberries, 6 hot cross buns and 4 giant Scotch pancakes plus 2 promotional items - a jar of baby beetroots and 2 packs of x12 chipolata sausages. Total savings came to a tad over £6.
A bit of a drama ensued when I spotted a shoplifter helping himself to packs of chicken breasts, burgers, steaks and bags of potatoes, then walking out of the store. While I was alerting the checkout assistant, he came back in for a second helping. On his third attempt, she and a male colleague tackled him and escorted him out of the store but didn't call the police. In the space of less than 5 minutes he'd probably got away with more than £40 worth of goods. I didn't get the feeling he was stealing to feed a family either, more like to sell on. Sad times.
I took two more books to the Little Free Library. I've 10 more paperbacks and half a dozen hardbacks to donate then the book stash will be gone. The yarn stash is also going down nicely too. I'm much better than I used to be at rooting out things I don't need or want but, after a lifetime of keeping Justins, it's still an alien concept. I remind myself that someone else may need or want what I don't and it's also much less for my offspring to deal with when I'm gone. Not to mention an easier cleaning experience since there's less clutter to move!
Easy tea tonight of fishcakes, chips and mushy peas.Be kind to others and to yourself too.11 -
Siebrie said:I'm trying to persuade them to have short hair or an undercut, but they are too young to appreciate those styles and prefer long 'princess' hair
@Siebrie Would a bit of bribery help? Have a shorter cut and they get some of the savings?

Been an expensive day today
Had to renew our passports - only 5 years out of date
They could have stayed out of date as far as I was concerned, no interest in going abroad anymore but the Son is getting married in Italy so we have to go
Another expense which I feel is totally justified was a new vacuum . I bought a Miele cat and dog way back in 2004 and it started to give up the ghost last year. Cant be repaired either as they no longer make the parts so Ive been making do with a Henry. Now I know people love them but Im sorry, with a cat and a dog, they have no effect on the hair at all. For the past year Ive been vacuuming, then going over in my hiking boots, sort of moonwalking about the carpets getting the hair up. However today I was just exhausted , the house looked a tip and I said sod it, jumped in the car and got myself a brand new vacuum and my house already with just one quick go over looks 1000 times better ( 3 empties of the container from the living room alone )Luckily its money I had, Ive not got to find it from anywhere else, and the freezers are full so even if I did we wouldn't starve nor go withoutWas chatting with the salesman, lovely wee lad, its my local electrical/kitchen goods shop so I know the staff. He has just bought a house - his first - and was saying he was so lucky to get a five year fixed so hes stretched as far as he can be. I am just so grateful we are mortgage clear. Id hate to be trying to start off during these times. I mean when we bought rates were about 9% - high enough - but of course back then we didnt have to borrow so much13 -
I'm on the last 14 months of a 5-year fix, the outstanding balance is very low due to overpayment, and I am planning to have it paid off in just over 3 years, fingers crossed.
I'm also glad my younger son & DiL have sold their East London home to buyers who are mortgage-free, as this steady increase in rates would have put the sale at risk, and their relocation back up north would have been scuppered. (At £615k its a bit like monopoly money to me, I daren't think what repayments would be 😳)2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Rents are just going through the roof in private rentals. I have to pay £150 per month out of my pension on top of my housing benefit which I can manage as I'm very thrifty, but my landlord is older than me and planning on selling next year. A similar place across the road was on the market for £250 more per month than I'm paying and there were loads of people interested.8

Watched the news about the mortgage rate rising again, I know my youngest DD will be working longer hours over the next few days as she is a rentals manager for a property company, and her landlords will be ringing her non-stop. Its so hard as the trickle down effect hits everyone.
Probably more belt tightening for many people sadly .
