We had more snow last night that settled on roofs, cars and grass verges but thankfully it was all gone by mid-morning.
Book returned to the Little Free Library (no more borrowed as I've still got a fair few to get through), then onto Co-op. Small spend of £6.49 that included a clearance pack of dry noodles for 66p, so I have no need to venture out for at least a week.I went earlier than normal so thought I'd timed it right to avoid the older children who make it a pit-stop after school - not so. A whole class of primary school children and a couple of teachers came in, not to buy anything, just to peruse the various F&V and where it all comes from. Ah well, I suppose they're learning something.
Today's kitchen makes: custard to use up some milk (will have with fruit), fish pie for dinner and baked a couple of part-baked baguettes at the same time that we'll have tomorrow lunchtime with some egg mayonnaise.

Compliments to the chef today ( thats moi btw) and it was just a freezer tea. Always worth packing away those small amounts. I managed to make two individual turkey and leak pies, ( too much pie filling and pastry from my last make ) had a cauliflower cheese made the other week when the cauliflower was huge, Added two potatoes cut into 4 and roasted, along with some peas, hubby was stuffed and mum ate hersBest of all - a free meal - as in I bought nothing for itIm not eating at the moment , the meds Im on, no appetite. There was a tiny bit of pastry left so I made the smallest marmite and cheese pin wheels ever - size of a hula hoop - and ate those11

Formed the cakes in my hands by taking a ball and patting into a rough circle about 1/4 inch thick. Cooked in a little smear of lard in a frying pan on a medium heat, until browned on one side, flipped over and browned the other side. This made 2 cakes slightly bigger than packaged oatcakes and a slightly sorry looking smaller one as I'm rubbish as estimating sizes.Grocery budget in 2023 £2279.18/£2700Grocery budget in 2022 £2304.76/£2400Grocery budget in 2021 £2107.86/£2200Grocery budget in 2020 £2193.02/£2160Saving for Christmas 2023 #15 £ 90/ £36512

It's milder here today (double figures!) but very dull with rain on and off. That seems to be the pattern for the next week or so - if I have to go out anywhere it may well be a case of dodging the rain!
Mr Postie brought the new Council Tax bill this morning and the new amount is roughly what I was expecting so that's now been added to our budget spreadsheet. We're in Band A so we'll not be paying as big an increase as some will; nevertheless, it's another deduction from our pension increase.Still waiting for the water rates bill and the phone/broadband will be going up in April too.
@Toonie - I might have a go at making some of those, they look rather nice and might make an acceptable change from shop bought oatcakes that I seem to go through a lot of.
Dinner tonight is chicken kung po with jacket potatoes and butter beans, sliced banana and custard for afters. Tomorrow I'll be soup making; once that's on I'll knock up some pastry for a custard tart and some corned beef pasties.
