Just made shortcrust pastry in my food processor - much cheaper than buying. Flour - 9p + Lard - 10p + Marge - 22p = 41p for 419g of pastry - Aldi is £1.09 for 375g.

My mother wouldn't buy Easter eggs when I was a child as she regarded them as a waste of money but I could have a bar of chocolate as there was more chocolate for less money. I had to lie at school when I was asked how many Easter eggs I received. Often the only chocolate I had as a child was cooking chocolate as that was cheaper than a bar of chocolate.

My mother was the same. So now I buy myself a decent Easter egg every year to make up for it.

My father would buy the cheaper undecorated marshmallow eggs and then make frosting and decorate them himself. I still prefer them that way. Also loved licking the frosting bowls too.

Buy the Easter eggs after Easter for 50-75% off, why pay more? Also things like flowers and Valentines meal deals are a lot cheaper after the 15th February. I try and buy my Christmas tree after Christmas - they are practically giving them away. Yes there is Commercial pressure to pay top $ but the difference of a few days can save much money.

I bet yours tasted better too @Florenceem.
 @arnoldy last year our local shop ran out of easter eggs before easter and that was Waitrose

Auntycaz - I got 2 quiches and a small jam tart out of the pastry. The jam was given to me. I got the sour cream in the quiches free.

The last two years there haven't been any Easter eggs left!

You can usually get Christmas trees for pennies (literally) a few days before Christmas at supermarkets because the companies that handle their waste (Biffa et al) can't take them, so they have to pay a significant amount to have leftover ones taken away by a specialist company.

Boiled egg only when I was a kid. Usually wearing a cardboard hat of some design, with wool attached for hair, and a face drawn on in pencil. Happy memories. No sweets in the house.

The small easter eggs are definitely smaller than last year. Worth getting them on the 75p offer though, especially if you give any to little ones friends. I love the look of the big ones but the prices of them now is eye watering!!

I have fond memories of easter as a kid, and I try to create similar memories for DD. Though I do limit the chocolate as she often gets eggs from the grandparents too, so it can be easy for there to be far too much chocolate!

I got some plastic reusable eggs and a egg hunt game in the after easter sales one year, fill a few with little eggs from lidl/aldi and then hide them around the house each year. And crafts. Always easter crafts. Again bought in the after easter sales for pennies and stashed for the next year. I find s'bys particularly good for reduced craft/celebration stuff. Usually 75% the day after. I have a bonnet for DD, and lots of decorating bits for it stashed away from last year from there.

Also, keep an eye out for yellow stickered meat and veg on the saturday as the stores will be closed sunday so they usually reduce heavily the day before. And.....Asda usually has free veg on Easter Monday (same as Boxing Day) to ensure it doesn't get wasted. Often this is carrots, parsnips and broccoli.
