Freezer Tetris is ongoing, despite my resolution to try and run it down. Went to the supermarket last night and there were packs of country life butter down till just over a pound, and some halfprice blocks of cheese so I got a couple of each. Then courtesy of Olio today, I asked for two packs of ham and got four. And twice as many leeks as I wanted. Menus based on ham leek and cheese for the next few days then. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.11 -
A strange bargain in M&S £5 for 750g of fancy cheddar, really weird as it works out much cheaper than their standard offering. I've stocked up on three packets"You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "11

Gaps beginning to appear in the freezer now but I'll keep going a bit longer before I fill it again. I think I'll manage for another couple of weeks. All kinds of odds and ends have been unearthed - and used - including one cube of roasted tomato pesto. Yes, ONE!
I stirred it through some hot orzo pasta and then, when it was cool, added a bit of grated cheese to have as an extra with salad.
Disaster yesterday when I was making our bed - I pulled up the candlewick bedspread and managed to put my fingers through the top, ending up with two large holes. Tbf, it's very well worn after 30-odd years of use, so it doesn't owe me anything. I've cut off the torn strip and hemmed it so it will do for now, We need a new duvet as well but will plod on for this winter with what we've got; that will give me plenty of time to look for replacements for next year.
Another four items of clothing (mine) weeded out ready to donate to the SA clothing bank so my wardrobe/drawers are finally done. Next mission is to get DH to go through his stuff. I'm anticipating resistance.Be kind to others and to yourself too.10 -
Doing my shopping for Sunday this week. We had a delivery last Wednesday on the 1st but as I got some meat for 90p in lidl plus the £1.50 veg box the day before I did a normal order which was gonna do closer to two weeks.Anyways I nearly fell off my chair - last week Galaxy bar 89p this week £1.50?!?! What’s that a 70% increase? Absolutely ridiculous and greedy of Tesco.:money::rotfl::T8

Topped up on some frozen fruit and veg as it's rude not to and I have some space in the freezer.
The lady reducing prices didn't have a ridiculous 'do not enter' barricade around her today so we've been able to get some decent bargains too.
Also picked up a new sofa for the bedroom for £10 that someone was going to throw away. It looks almost brand new. The bedroom contains my home working office as the previous owners altered the layout of the house and it's really the only suitable place to put it. I'm fed up with walking up 2 flights of stairs when someone calls to get paperwork so it's making a more comfortable place to work.💙💛 💔6 -

I've just finished doing a store cupboard check and freezer inventory. I've made a plan for the next few days and will grab a few things from Sainsbury tomorrow in order to flesh out some ideas. I found a couple of tins of fruit at the back of the cupboard which I had forgotten about (one summer fruits and one peaches, so will try and use them for breakfast. I thought I could make a granola type thing and then serve with the tinned fruit. I have oats, sunflower seeds, linseeds, honey, and dried fruit so will try to find a recipe unless anyone has one to share?Tomorrow we'll be having a yellow sticker gammon joint I picked up just after Christmas, leftovers will be sliced for sandwiches, and some for ham, egg, and chips. It's a fairly big joint, so depending how much there is I will probably be putting some slices in a bag in the freezer for another time.Grocery budget in 2023 £2279.18/£2700Grocery budget in 2022 £2304.76/£2400Grocery budget in 2021 £2107.86/£2200Grocery budget in 2020 £2193.02/£2160Saving for Christmas 2023 #15 £ 90/ £3657

Went to pick up my OLIO stuff and there was a big box of help yourself things that someone haven’t collected so that’s lunches for the next few days.
Will make up for the rip-off car park prices for the theatre trip I’m going to tonight, after my cheap nearby parking was built over. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

It's not just the food prices going up its the fuel to cook it with as well. I don't think Lee Anderson was factoring in any cooking costs when he made his statement and also they were buying their goods in bulk to keep the costs down. Lots of people cannot afford to buy in bulk or don't have a car to be able to do so or on the other hand they could be time poor trying to work, shop provide a healthy meal and get their children to school, nursery etc He's probably never had to budget in his life so he shouldn't be trying to make people feel worse than they already do for struggling to feed their families.11
