I've not driven much recently. I drove passed a petrol station today and the price has gone up by 10p a litre since I last filled up. Normally I let my tank get down to three quarters empty. I think I will fill up more often.A salutary reminder of the times of hyperinflation in Germany in the 1920's when you purchased a loaf of bread immediately you had the money, a wait of a few hours might mean you couldn't afford.

I went past an A*da today and diesel was £1.597; speaking to someone else they said they'd filled up last night at the same petrol station at £1.577 so a rise of 2p overnight. Last week the same petrol station as 10p cheaper. It's getting hard out there, we just have to think about when we use the car now.

The sad thing is the petrol prices will rise but how much of it will be profiteering!"You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "9

Of course there's also an element of making the right car choice. There was a woman on You and Yours yesterday who said she'd resorted to using red diesel because she couldn't otherwise afford to take the kids to school in her, ahem, 4x4...!15

Been to Lidl this evening and managed to get some of their 30% off bakery items for going after 7pm, including some lovely ciabattas and cinnamon and raisin bagels which have gone in the freezer. I also picked up some lentils, thanks to @Doom_and_Gloom for the meat free suggestions
Washing is drying in front of the log burner and i'm drinking a cuppa in a travel mug so it stays hot for longer. Another one who boils the kettle once and puts the rest in a thermos, especially on a weekend. I also reuse teabags for a 2nd cup too.
I haven't put the 'big light' on in the living room for ages. I use a lamp in the corner. I like to think it's cheaper as the main light has 3 bulbs. Sometimes on a weekend I'll light candles and keep the lights off. Roll on spring and the lighter nights!
Hope everyones ok this evening#39 - Save £12k in 202513 -

The first lady with the 2yo was positive about the future given that her studying was coming to an end - she'll soon learn that a PGCE won't put her into the road to riches! No man is worth crawling on this earth.

Agree the future did sound a lot brighter for the PGCE student. Can be actually very rewarding teaching. Good pension and holidays to boot.
The geezer with the big energy bill estimation though. Could have read his meter once in a while..!5 -
I heard that item on you and yours. If she gets caight it will cost her dearly and I would be interested to know the age of the children and if there is an alternative way of getting them to school. We have a big 4x4 car which my husband uses for camping with our Collie at the small festivals he attends and it is over 20 years old. Not all big cars are a waste. We also used it for selling car boot sales which we have now stopped due to my health. It has a cooker in it which was handy for cups of tea/ coffee and the odd bacon sarnie saving us a fortune at them. I would also say that our annual mileage is probably under 2500miles a year. Mostly other than camping it is used for shopping once a week which is about 3miles away.8
