I am resigned to WW3 and have to keep on remembering that those caught up in it are suffering much more than the ripples we feel from afar.

well the same petrol station that had increased its prices from sunday > Monday had gone up again last night - another 2p a litre on diesel at 164.9 - with the one across the road leapfrogging it to go with 165.9.
However - and those of you even in mainland rural areas might wince at this - someone I know through Twitter paid 182.9 yesterday over in the Hebrides. This means that there will now be filling stations in remote areas of mainland Scotland (the islands get a reduction to help balance things out a little) now at over 190 a litre...🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
Balance as at 01/09/23 = £115,000.00 Balance as at 31/12/23 = £112,000.00

Yes, our local petrol station, B*, increased its price for unleaded by 2p yesterday afternoon. So pleased I filled up in the morning.5

I got told by a friend that petrol was due to rise in N. Ireland over the weekend by at least 10p a litre. Despite not being in N. Ireland I thought it couldn't hurt to top up, so I did at £1.549 a litre. Very glad I did so now as its over £1.60 a litre. Absolutely crazy prices.
And it will have a huge knock on effect on haulage companies who are already struggling with Brexit and the pandemic. And that will in turn mean even more increases on food. Dark times.Live the good life where you have been planted.

he won’t go to DD as his ex wife claimed to be paying the bills but didn’t and when she did a bunk, he was left with joint loans, debts and bills to sort out. Partly his fault for not checking but still…
So everyone has their own past and personal reasons for choosing payment methods.Suggestions of ways to potentially save money is always good though, but a choice as to whether the suggestions are acted on.
on some accounts you can set up email or text alerts on payments made or received above a limit you can set yourself. Santander do this, so I can see when direct debits go out. It doesn't show the payee but you get to know the regular stuff by the amount.

Just got my Council Tax bill from Croydon - up by 4.1% which is going to work out at £5pm increase - less than I was expecting. The rebate will be paid directly to my bank account in April, apparently.
I went out at the weekend and my nearest petrol station was 151.9 when I left and 153.9 by the time I got home. I'm reducing my driving as much as possible (once a week to see family on a 30m round trip) and my car has the smallest engine I can get with four wheels attached.
I'm on a fixed term contract and will be unemployed by the end of June. I'm looking for new roles, but there isn't much available at my level. I'll do whatever job I can get, but I'd like to stick at my salary level if possible or I'm going to struggle long term. I have savings (so no benefits) but they took a battering after a covid redundancy and the subsequent period of unemployment there. I'm getting pretty worried about being out of work again - I can't do that again for my wallet or my mental health. Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....
