Tax Credit Overpayment

I’m a single parent currently in receipt of tax credits. After being
on furlough and then made redundant in 2020 and working some temp jobs I managed to get a new perm job in March 21. Each time I started / finished a new job I notified HMRC using the app, my income is a lot higher this year than. I also notified them in March of my new job as the app hadn’t updated. I logged on last week to change this year’s estimated income as I’ve just had a pay rise and the estimate for this year was incorrect- it showed my earnings for 2020/2021 not the estimate I’d given them for this year- I had an amended award notice through today notifying me that no more payments are due until 22nd April and that I have an overpayment of £800.

I am now £400 per month short, I’ve run my figures through Entitled to’s benefits calculator and the weekly payments I was getting matched and I had no reason to check.
I hadn’t noticed any errors on previous award notices that have come through in the post, I’m sure it showed the correct estimate for this year.
What do before my restart?

Nothing you can do. If you’ve been overpaid you can’t get anymore payments until April. However remember that next year’s payments will be based on this year’s income so any payments due will likely be lower than in the past and there will be a deduction to recover the overpayment.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0

That doesn’t help when I have mouths to feed and a roof to keep over our heads. We’re hand to mouth as it.0

I don’t understand why there is an overpayment. I’ve checked on “entitled to” and the weekly payments are roughly the same.0

How do o the payments for your new estimate compare to what you were getting?
Have you completed it correctly as it is only as good as the information put in it.
Your award notice should explain what information has been used to calculate the new payments.
Remember , the new estimate applies to the whole year so if the payments reduce all the payments received so far rwill be overpaid0
