Part exchange and finance

Recently my son part exchanged his car and took out finance for new car. Dealership did not inspect or test drive, simply got value off internet. My son signed contract and picked up car, but dealer are now asking for car back as finance has been withdrawn, as car was a previous write off. Surely it was down to dealer to do appropriate checks?

What do you mean by "the finance has been withdrawn"? That would not be linked to the old car, so do you mean your son has driven away in the new car for old car as deposit plus monthly finance? Then the finance did not pay to the dealer plus the old car is worth less than valued because of the previous write off? One way or the other your son needs to pay for the new car, so if the finance has been withdrawn, there is no money paid to the Dealer.
This needs better explanation please as the two separate matters seem confusingly mixed.1
