Many of us learnt quite a lot of what we know by reading the forum in the first place ! Although there some real experts as well who have worked/are working in the industry .dibby1939 said:Thank you all for your measured and helpful replies.I am new to MSE, and having perused (though not used) a number of other forums I was quite expecting a series of critical (and some times hysterical) responses along the lines of "you shouldn't be doing this" or " you are a fool for having anything to do with that expensive platform?". So I was pleasantly surprised at the sensible and understanding tone of these repsonses. I shall certainly come here again for information and help when I need it.Thanks again.
We do get the odd troll/impolite poster unfortunately, but the worst ones usually get banned.6 -
It might be better looking at their "master portfolios" which don't seem to include the expensive MM funds, although you'd need to rebalance etc yourself:But even there there's a bias towards actively managed funds. They used to have suggested portfolios for trackers but I can't find that - HL don't really seem to like trackers.0

That seems to be the practice across most providers who have such lists.Would always recommend people source their research from beyond their own provider, including several different sources. It takes little extra effort and is a good defence against well-marketed but inferior products.1

Before RDR there wasn't any margin in the AMC for their commission. I remember when they introduced Vanguard funds but charged £2.00 per month to make up for the missing kick back1
