Why does Experian show a late payment missed two months ago for an account that settled in 2017?

Options

I see this when I log into my Experian account and then click on Score History, and then on Negative Influencers and then Late Payments. The other late payment 5 months ago is accurate, but the other one is a current account where I went into overdraft and had to pay monthly interest. That account was paid off and closed in 2017. Is this a mistake?

Comments

  • It looks like the normal incorrect Experian narrative, rather than anything wrong with the data.

Ignore the score and the analytics - is the underlying data for the account in question being reported correctly? If so then I wouldn't worry. If not, then I'd be contacting the organisation concerned and complain that they are reporting incorrect data for a 5 year old closed account - Experian can't do much if the data they are getting is wrong.

If the data is right, then it's just Experian's analytics getting messed up, which is fine because no-one else apart from you will see them.
  • As far as I can tell the data is being reportedly correctly but it’s hard to tell with Experian as it says “one month ago on August 2017 balance was X, two months ago on July 2017 balance was Y” etc but this is for a five year old settled account. It doesn’t make sense.

Same with the pdf credit report where you can see the last 12/24 months.

Just worried as it looks like I have missed two payments in the last 6 months, but is it dangerous to assume it’s an error on their end?

Is this account reported on your Equifax/TransUnion reports? Does it show the same thing there?
