Business Rate Relief

Options

I received a letter from Enforcement Agent for payment of £900 as Non Domestic business rate for the period of 2019. I spoke to the council, they said they have sent letter, reminder and summons which I never received until now when I received the letter from enforcement agent. I did not receive any letter before

I am 100% eligible for Small Business rate relief, which I didn’t know earlier, I spoke to council and filled the Application form for the Small Business rate relief sent via email, and post but I think it might take a month to process. I spoke to Enforcement agent and they said, you clear the dues now and when your application is successful they will issue the refund and same the council said as an advise.

Please give suggestions, Shall I pay enforcement agent now and then chase the council for the application and refund, or shall I hold any payment and wait for the application result. I am scared if further proceedings are not carried by Enforcement agent.

Second - I was not aware that I was eligible for £10,000 Small Business Grant as I never received any communication from Council, Is there anything that can be done now.

If I were you then yes, I would pay it and then get the refund, as long as you are able to fund the £900, especially as they may continue enforcement action until the matter is resolved and that might involve costs, even if you are refunded the original amount.

Unfortunately not, these schemes have all now closed and ran out of funds long ago.
