  • This shows the credit check was done on my address NOT the person - despite people claiming firms don't do this - as there is no such person (for example) with the surname Parrort at this address, when it should be Parrott (double 't').

As for a cost to change my surname he made it clear when processing the credit application and reading out their terms & conditions of the finance, "[they won't like me warning you of this] - "the finance company apply charges for correcting mistakes / making changes" at the time of booking, hence this panic from us, then HE makes a mistake.

Surely any credit agreement is null and void as it's technically not in my name.....
Ah, now we get to the nub of the issue.

No, you aren’t going to be able to avoid repaying the finance because of a spelling error.

And to repeat what others have said, the credit check was done on the name they put in, not on the address.

No.   People mispelling names is a thing that happens.  Also, people often use different versions of their first names (Are you Phillip/Phil, Joanna/Jo).  Therefore any kind of person search will use a degree of fuzzy matching on the names and will find both exact matches and near matches.  So, if they're searching for Parrort and they find Parrot - same first name/initial, same DoB, same address, they will conclude it's the same person.

Edit - As Sandtree has already said.  I should have read to the end first....

I'm not trying to avoid repaying the finance because of a spelling error, jeez. We bought a bed for our son who desperately needs a new one and we're worried things may go wrong as the salesman put the wrong name down on the credit application that's all

    :(

Thanks to the other posters who explained there is some level of tolerance with matching surnames.

Just want paperwork / legal documents correcting and sending to us.
  • Don't forget we were going to pay outright on my debit card, then he offered us 6 months 0% APR, so we're not trying to dodge repaying anything.

They'll be on a commission for selling the finance deal, so it's in their interests to see it's sorted.  Plus they won't pay a small card handling fee to Visa or whoever.

Next time, haggle for a discount. They may offer one rather than let you pay in full.  I got delivery, mattress topper and a couple of pillows free of charge from a retailer when I elected for the 0% finance route on a bed, mattress and a couple of bedside tables rather than paying by credit card.

It's still only 3 days since your 1st post.
Given the finance does not start till they deliver the bed. They have plenty of time.

If they had a problem you have have been contacted.
    Life in the slow lane
  • Completely normal. The retailer I work for also uses Creation for IFC and usual SLA for processing applications is 7-10 working days. They were well behind SLA a couple of weeks ago due to backlog from over the festive period.
  • 18 days since placing the instore order and still nothing from Creation Finance - or 13 "working days" for those who prefer..... a hard search has shown up from them on my credit file though (in the incorrectly spelt surname of course).

  • 8th March and still nothing from Creation.
