PayPal - Still Relevant?

With eBay favouring their own payment system now, is PayPal still relevant?
I used to think so as an extra layer of protection / claim if I need to but after reading about Lloyds potentially not refunding through a section 75 claim because they thought the person used PayPal, I wonder whether I should just drop it and close my account all together.

I mostly use it for making small and rapid purchases from sites that I don’t want to trust my credit details with. Think aliexpress etc.
and for things below the s75 limit1 -
Very much so. I use it for pretty much everything. I used to get Clubcard points for using my Tesco bank card so didn't always used PayPal before, but now those accounts have closed I have no reason not to use it. I particularly appreciate the Returns On Us as a bit of a safety net, just in case things don't live up to expectations (or don't fit) but aren't faulty.0

Very relevant. No change in S75/chargeback. Returns on Us (as Spoonie says) is perfect for non SNAD returns. Plus I will take their 180 days over anything Ebay offers any day.0

I still use it for anything under £100 where PayPal is an option.
Use it all the time for ebay - it's just annoying that it's now not the default payment option and I have to forever switch it to PayPal from my credit card.
Theory behind it is as you say - extra level of protection.
Whether that actually works or not who knows. Having suffered Parcel2Go's 'protection' and not long before that found that PayPal won't help me out due to some wording nonsense, I don't particularly feel well protected.
But maybe it'll work one day.0 -

As others, I still use Paypal to pay on sites that accept it. It's generally my first choice.
If something goes wrong it's easier to get a refund via Paypal, after contacting the seller, than letting the credit/debit card company deal with it.
There's not much difference with Ebay payments and Paypal but if I'm buying on Ebay, which isn't too often, I tend to use Paypal.
I've started using Klarna a bit when it shows up as an option.
