Will there be more Covid boosters this year - how do we travel without them if not?!

Tenth Anniversary Combo Breaker

Our 2020 holiday to Sicily has been bumped to 2021, and now 2022. Kids about to leave home, so this is our last chance to do this one. However, current rules seem to be that you have to have had a jab within 180 days of entering the country. We're all fully jabbed, BUT, by the time we are due to go in end June, they will all be out of date! With no information being provided about a future vaccine rollout, what does everyone think will happen? Is there likely to be a relaxation of the rules, I sort of switched off to it all last summer so not sure whats been happening! Any thoughts folks - I'd like to vaguely try to prepare. Really not keen on the current rules of having to quarantine for 5 days after arrival, although I suppose being trapped in a villa with a pool won't kill us, its not really what I'm going there for!

Highly likely that EU countries will require up todate vaccination status for the summer. As protection will have waned by then. Focus is currently on the current roll out. When this is finished. There'll be an announcement no doubt.

I read an Italian newspaper article this week which said that a new regulation was going to make the Supergreen covid pass only valid for 6 months (not 9 months) from the date of the booster jab so anyone who had their booster before Oct 2021 would soon have problems. It also said that negative Covid test results would only be valid for 24 hours not 48. Italians who commented on it asked what tourists were supposed to do....

Based on the UK saying it wont be doing 6 month boosters for the whole population for life then it does sound like at some point covid boosters for travel will be available as a private service in the same way as other travel vaccines

I don’t know of any country offering 4th boosters to all. The UK is offering 4ths to those who have a compromised immune system/ certain illnesses. As most people will be in the same position I would expect that countries will revise their guidelines.

However I don't believe for EU guidance at this stage a booster expires at all, merely the 2nd is subject to a 9 month limit.

A 4th vaccine will be available to some, but not most of the population.

I am in contact with relevant officials on this matter in a professional capacity and so far this would appear to be the case. In addition, there are certain nations in the EU that will give access to unvaccinated British nationals as a blanket rule, so travel remains available with additional restrictions.

    Do I understand that correctly.

If you haven't had a booster  your vaccination certificate for primary vaccination will only be valid for 180/270 days, depending on the vaccine used.

If you have had a booster it does not have any expiry date.

I'm professionally in contact with officials regarding this, but that's how I read the rules at this stage.

It may be the case that a variant-resistant vaccine may be necessary at a further stage, however at this stage that doesn't look to be the case.

At the moment, until end Feb, Israel will allow entry to tourists even if 6 months have passed since their booster; from then on it requires booster vaccine to be within the last 6 months. Israel itself is only currently giving a 4th to over 60s. The article is a recommendation which may not be followed.
