    Thanks all - is it worth me picking up the phone to BG to discuss options, or will they palm me off with some ridiculous fixed cap prices?
    The options they will offer you are the current fixed tariffs which will be more expensive for sure.
    If you are feeling lucky, you could try for one of the older tariffs that in theory should not be available but people are still managing to get them via the online chat service.
    Have a look at threads on here regarding 'Zero Fixed Oct 22'
    ... but this only buys you a few more months as it expires in October, and depending on your gas use may be more expensive in the short term.
