Beginning date of UK residency - Car insurance

Hi,
I need some help. I was born and grew up in the UK, received my license here and drove here. I moved and lived abroad for just under 3 years. I have since returned to the UK.
When getting car insurance quotes, it asks when my UK residency began. To clarify, would this be from birth or from the date I returned?
Any help would be much appreciated in clearing this up for me.
